Another Artist: Black Drop Designs
In part of a larger series of events that I will eventually blog about, I was introduced by Ted Gowans to the super incredible work of Black Drop Designs just last night.
I went to art school, so I knew a lot of people who majored in some sort of jewelry creation or metalsmithing. I haven’t seen any of them take their work to the professional, working level of Black Drop. I love the super...

W. W. Norton: Hurry →
wwnorton:
We stop at the dry cleaners and the grocery store and the gas station and the green market and Hurry up honey, I say, hurry hurry, as she runs along two or three steps behind me her blue jacket unzipped and her socks rolled down.
Where do I want her to hurry to? To her grave? To mine? Where one day she might stand all grown?
Today, when all the errands are finally done, I say to her,...

A Poet's Appetite: In Which This Is The Best Thing...
I’m a big fan of This Recording. A big fan of Molly Lambert. I’m fairly sure everyone is.
This morning, the best, no, THE BEST piece ever (by Shahirah Majumdar) is available for you to consume over at thisrecording.com.
All her life Millay sought wild moments of ecstasy to which she could submit herself fully and come undone.
You should take a few minutes and go read it, even if...

Scare Review: Katrina Weidman →
In majorly exciting recent news, Maggie just had the pleasure of interviewing Katrina Weidman — the host of Chiller network’s Real Fear: The Truth Behind the Movies, a cast member of A&E’s popular Paranormal State, and a Crisis Counselor.
As a massive fan of horror and the many, many paranormal based shows on cable right now, I’m super excited to share this link! It’s an awesome...

Bookcase
Rebecca showed me this incredible horizontal bookcase today. I’m thinking of creating something unconventional for the wall in my apartment BY HAND that will be capable of holding books.
Back in college my friend Cory and I were always at the Home Depot in the lumber or paint section scheming to create some sort of furniture. I haven’t done anything like that in forever. Maybe if I...

You know that thing where you’re having a nice time with new people and then suddenly you’re standing in the Walgreens makeup aisle deciding which lipgloss to emotionally impulse buy?

Another Artist: Jean-Charles Desevre
There are tons of artists to whom I say, “If I could make any work, it would be exactly the work that you make.” I always mean it when I say it as the highest compliment. I speak is solely superlatives when describing work I love. I really mean it all.
Jean-Charles has the kind of work I wish I made if I could only make one kind of work. I mean it this time. If I had to live on an...

Sunday
I really hate Sundays. I know that most people do as well, but I think my hate extends beyond the average person’s. For instance, the song Manic Monday has always made me completely crazy, because it says that Sunday is a “Funday.” That’s just ridiculous. I still sometimes think about that lyric and have concluded its existence is based on one of two things: Maybe in the...

iPhone Photos
I downloaded a new app called Pudding Camera and it’s got some great capabilities. If you’re into iPhone photo apps, definitely check it out.
An excellent iPhone photo editor is Snapseed. It gives you incredible control over the photos you take, but the UI has a bit of a steep learning curve.
Here are a few photos that I took last night around my apartment.

Creative Mornings + DKNG
I got up early this morning, which is pretty incredible given that I work from home on Fridays, to attend the Creative Mornings chat featuring DKNG. The chat was incredible and their experience seemed really similar to my client experiences. If you aren’t aware of them, you should check them out. These dudes are crazy good.
I also picked up these incredible screenprints of one of my...

“Uncertainty, doubt, questioning..." - Quote
“Uncertainty, doubt, questioning. These are the innermost workings of literature. They are the writers’ true instruments. Is there any other mechanism that can sustain such extended and complex examination of ambiguity as a novel? That is what it was born for. In the digital world ambiguity is a bug or flaw to be worked out. In literature, it’s a chance to expand the definition of being.”

In Which I Ruin Everything
Yesterday Conan had Ben Kweller on to perform. He’s cool and everything, but I don’t really listen to his music. I was backstage shadowing one of the girls I work with learning the intricate dance that is STAY THE FUCK OUT OF EVERYONE’S WAY waiting for the moment when I’ll begin taking some “behind the scenes” celebrity bits.
Kweller was turning in circles,...

Another Artist: Mary Frances Foster
Yesterday I discovered the work of Mary Frances Foster on Dribbble. That lead me to her website and blog. I became an immediate fan of the blog. It’s a fabulous curation of vintage photography, art, film photographs taken by Foster herself and other delicate, soft-palletted delights.
I love colors that fight each other - “fight”, probably being the wrong word, since these light...

NSHS, SF, LA
It’s been about a month since I moved to Los Angeles, and it’s absolutely no secret that I like it here much better than San Francisco. According to everyone I spoke to about moving: San Francisco is the greatest city in the world and Los Angeles is a trash can filled with half eaten sardine sandwiches. I find the opposite to be true. Well, not really opposite, but like I said, I much...
